We are seeking a Business Development Manager to join our Pumps Sales Team. The successful candidate will identify, cultivate, and secure new business opportunities with EPCM companies that are involved in mining projects. This involves building and maintaining strong relationships with key decision-makers within these EPCM firms.
They act as a liaison between the Metso and the EPCM customer, ensuring that the Metso's products and services align with the EPCM's project requirements. They must have a strong understanding of the mining industry, EPCM project lifecycles, and Pumps business line's product portfolio (Slurry Pumps, Hydrocyclones, Valves & Slurry Hoses).
In this position, you will report to the Head of Pumps - Africa.
This position is mainly based in Centurion, Gauteng.
TEAM YOU BELONG TO
You will join the Pumps Sales Team and work closely with internal and external stakeholders, such as Mining Customers, Engineering & Drawing Offices, Complex Proposals Commercial Team, Project Execution Team, Key Account Managers, Business Development Managers, Product Lines, Quote & Order Management Teams and Product Support Teams.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Relationship Building:
- Establish and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders at EPCM companies, including project managers, engineers, and procurement specialists
- Network extensively within the mining and EPCM industries
- Business Development:
- Identify and pursue new business opportunities by monitoring industry trends, tracking upcoming projects, and conducting market research
- Develop and execute strategic business development plans to achieve sales targets
- Prepare and deliver compelling presentations and proposals to EPCM customers
- Negotiate contracts and agreements
- Technical Expertise:
- Gain a deep understanding of the Metso's mining equipment and technologies
- Provide technical support and guidance to EPCM customers
- Collaborate with internal engineering and product development teams to ensure that the Metso's offerings meet customer needs
- Market Intelligence:
- Stay up to date on industry trends, competitor activities, and regulatory changes
- Provide market feedback to the Metso's management team
- Track and report on sales activities and performance
- Collaboration:
- Work closely with internal sales, marketing, and engineering teams to ensure a coordinated approach to business development
- Coordinate with project execution teams to ensure smooth project delivery
- CRM Management:
- Maintain accurate and up to date records of all customer interactions, and sales activity within the companies CRM systems
WHO YOU ARE
- Matric (Grade 12)
- 4-year Degree in Engineering (Processing, Mechanical or Mining)
- Minimum 5 years’ experience in related Mining or Engineering Field
- Previous experience as a Sales Engineer for a Pump Equipment, Hydrocyclones and Slurry hoses supplier would be an added advantage
- Hydrocyclones and Slurry hoses applications experience advantageous
- Work experience in a pump equipment, hydrocyclones and slurry hoses sales and marketing environment would be beneficial
- Good interpersonal and negotiation skills with the ability to present to large audiences are also required.
- Good market knowledge
- Good technical and sales background of Slurry Pumps, Hydrocyclones and Slurry hoses
- An existing customer network would be beneficial
- Computer literacy is essential

- Follow – up on quotes, as well as pursue back orders & lead times
- Diplomatic in negotiation skills
- Willingness / Ability to travel
